James Hempsall OBE is a prominent figure in the UK children’s services sector. He is the Managing Director of Coram Hempsall’s and the National Director for Childcare Works. With over 30 years of experience, he has been instrumental in driving service improvements and leading national implementation of key government programmes in early years and childcare.

He founded Hempsall’s in 1999, a consultancy and training organisation that supports early years and childcare providers, local authorities, and government departments. Hempsall’s work focuses on tackling inequality and improving opportunities for disadvantaged children and families. in 2023, Hempsall’s joined The Thomas Coram Foundation group to become Coram Hempsall’s. 

James’ contributions have been recognised with an OBE for his services to early years education. His leadership and expertise continue to influence policies and practices, ensuring better outcomes for children across the UK.
